Ian Redmond, OBE
When he was collecting tadpoles in jam jars like lots of other little
boys, Ian Redmond could barely have imagined where his love of nature
would lead him. He was awarded an OBE for his services to conservation in
the 2006 birthday honours list.
Constance Brown, MBE
While most of us will be looking forward to retiring at the age of 65,
Constance Brown is keeping herself busy running a fish and chip shop in
her 99th year. Mrs. Brown was awarded the MBE for services to business
and to the community in the 2006 birthday honours list.
Miriam Parker, MBE
Miriam Parker was awarded an MBE in the New Year's honours list for
services to farming. In a male-dominated field she has worked her way up
from farm worker to highly respected industry figure. Miriam's mix of
straight-talking and commitment to her industry and the people in it saw
her nominated by her peers.
Penny Streeter, OBE
Entrepreneur Penny Streeter was awarded an OBE for services to
women's enterprise and business. In 1996, she set up Ambition
24hours, a temporary employment agency that now boasts a turnover of £60
million. With just her mother to help her, Penny, a single mother of
four, started the business without outside investors or bank lenders and
worked as a children's entertainer at weekends. Today the company has
19 branch offices, nearly 200 office staff and 13,500 personnel on its
books.
